Polarity: Bitwig Tutorials Overview
In this post I link all my available Bitwig Studio Tutorials on youtube. Most of them even with time markers for the video to jump exactly to the right position in the video. The Site will be updated and is also a guide for me to see where there are gaps or missing pieces. Maybe its also nice for me to revisit some of the videos and exchange them for better ones. You can follow me on youtube if you havent already or support me on patreon. Thanks!
Bitwig Beginner Quick Start
- Beginner Bitwig 3.0 Course These 5 videos are made with Version 3.0 and a bit newer (2020) and more in depth than the last one.

Questions? ask me :) This is a short, how to go from zero to something in the shortest amount of time. This Tutorial is made in Bitwig 2.0, so its a bit older (2018).
Bitwig Devices explained
I dont really like to make videos for each device, because it only tells you how the device works and not what you can do with it. Knowing how a car works doesnt makes you a good driver. But a lot of people favor these videos for whatever reason. Here we go:
Bitwig Tips and Tricks Videos
Small and useful tricks you can only do in Bitwig Studio. This is your second stop after the beginner tutorials. Most videos have multiple small tutorials inside. Alot of people actually like these kind of videos, because they give you interesting short tips in one video. You can watch the Bitwig Tips and Tricks youtube playlist here.

- Mixing: How to Start - Bitwig Tutorial Big topic, but I tried to narrow it down to some easy tipps. Group your Tracks. Choose a reference. Start to mix important tracks first, begin at the bottom. Make creative mixing decisions. Use a visualizer with the reference and your ears equally. Plugins used: Voxengo Span (http://www.voxengo.com/product/span/) and mda Testtone (http://mda.smartelectronix.com/effects.htm) date: 11/26/2020 8:17:33 PM
- Dynamic Sequencing - Bitwig Tutorial Dynamic Sequencing is about getting as much information as possible into the chain to make it easily modifiable. To draw notes and expressions statically into the arranger is for me a thing of the past. The majority of the VST plugins advertise to bring “live” and “dirt” into the productions to make them more alive. With Bitwig you have the possibility to create a living sound right at the source. Look at the arranger as a relict of the past and use him as what he is, a slightly better recording device (kind of) and treat Bitwig with the chain and the launcher more like an actual instrument. date: 11/26/2020 8:17:38 PM

- Generating Notes - Bitwig Tutorial If the ideas are missing or if you just want to play a little bit with the harmony theory, you can just let the computer be creative. Notes can be easily generated with Bitwig and the Note Echo.date: 11/26/2020 8:17:48 PM
- Get more out of your VSTs - Bitwig Tutorial Bitwig’s best feature are the modulators. And they not only spice up the internal devices, but also normal commercial VST plugins. My recommendation: If you don’t use Bitwig yet, download the demo (https://www.bitwig.com/en/download) and test it for yourself. Old static VSTs brought back to life. date: 11/26/2020 8:17:48 PM
- Creating Chords Visually in Bitwig - Polarity Tutorials Today i wanted to share one technique to come up with chord progressions just by looking at the notes visually . ate: 11/26/2020 8:17:48 PM

Bitwig Grid: Modules explained
Here I try to explain individual modules in various contexts. A module by itself is quickly explained and usually has only one simple function. But in combination with other modules it can work wonders. You can watch the full playlist on youtube.
- Recorder Module
- Zero Crossing - estimate pitch of simple waveforms
- Steps - value sequencer
- Array - store values in indexed slots
- All Pass - feedback + delay module reverbs / valhalla
- Logic Modules Gates, Comparators, Conditions,
- Scaler - subdivide rhythms and signals The scaler is versatile module. Not that you can subdide phase signals, you can also misuse it as an audio effect and control modulations with it.
- 0:00 intro
- 0:24 how the scaler works
- 01:50 comparing phase signals
- 03:00 synchronize modules with the phase signal
- 04:30 play modules at different speeds
- 06:20 retrigger phase
- 07:37 retrigger process
- 08:31 scaler gate output
- 10:23 playing polymeters with the scaler
- 12:42 polymeters with the gates & scaler module (difference)
- 14:09 misuse the scaler for audio fx
- 16:25 use the transport bpm as a root note
- 18:29 multi modulating values
- 21:34 outro
- Envelopes - shaping volumes & modulations
- looping envelopes explained in Beginner 3: Modulations, Audio FX & simple Sequencing at0:35 modulation with serial envelopes
- Pitch to Phase - one octave of notes becomes a phase signal
- partly explained in Folding Notes back to one Octave at 2:24. x.iso made a nice Octave Wrapper preset wrapping notes outside of the grid. good for using it with vsts & instruments.
Bitwig Grid: Solutions
These videos are concerned with providing solutions to practical problems. So how do I build a bass or a pad. How do I sequence things. How to build a reverb. Here I ask questions that come up in everyday life and try to answer them. You can watch the full playlist on youtube.

Normally I’m not so talkative when I’m sitting at the computer.
- Skip Massive X and use your voice in the Bitwig Grid With this simple patch you can create sounds in shell. It works best if you try to hit the same tone as the oscillator. You also don’t need an expensive microphone to use your voice as a modulation source. Try it out, it’s definitely fun and to my knowledge it’s not so easy to copy it in another DAW.
- Pitch Tracking: Use your voice as pitch information - Bitwig Grid After my last video, I wanted to dive into pitch tracking again and show how to convert audio signals into pitch information. You can do a lot with it.
- Neuro Bass with the Bitwig Grid Hello guys, today I want to show you how to create a Neuro Bass in the Grid of Bitwig. Of course, it always depends on which sound you are aiming for because there are of course many different types of basses. In this tutorial, I would like to show you a quick and easy to create a patch for Neurofunk basses.
- Tape-Stop with the Bitwig Grid, how to misuse the delay and some wavetable fun today’s video is about how to create a tape-stop device with Bitwig Studio 3.0. I use the delay module from the grid and some small modulations and an envelope module. I also show you how to use the Delay module to create a tape emulation. Finally, I’ll answer a question: how to create and use wavetables with Bitwig Studio.
- Exponential Rhythms in Bitwig Studio Make intelligent use of the Note Echo device in Bitwig to create off the Grid exponential rhythms as you saw in that awesome Mr.Bill video.
- Polyrhythms & Oscillators - How to use oscillators as a clock to create unusual rhythms In this episode, I tell you about oscillators and how they can serve as clocks. Oscillators can be used in many ways and in Bitwig not only as modulation source or sound source but also for timing information.
- Frequency Modulation - FM Synthesis in Bitwig Studio (modular / semi-modular) probably shit explanation

Bitwig Grid: Generative Beginner Course
You can find it on the Blog or on a playlist on youtube How to start in the grid, apply pitch and gate signals and how to go from synth to self running. In this tutorial I show you how to build generative patches by yourself. The whole thing is designed as easy as possible and should invite you to participate.
Beginner 1: Transform your Synths into generative Patches I often notice in conversations that the basics are not in place for everyone. That’s why today we are refreshing everything from the bottom up. We start with a simple synth and turn it into something generative.
- 0:00 intro
- 0:45 how to open the grid / initial patch
- 2:19 how to play the grid as an instrument
- 2:50 what are pre-chords?
- 3:57 disable pitch pre-chord and modify the incoming pitch signal
- 5:21 using the pitch quantize module to stay in key
- 9:34 ADSR Envelope module and how it works
- 14:24 gate signal pre-chord & modifying gate signals
- 16:04 generating gate signals inside the grid / gates module

Free Bitwig Presets explained
- Layer Fader - Do you miss this device in Bitwig Studio too? Fade seemlessly between FX layers & Instrument layer with just one macro / remote control.
- Hard Clip - native Bitwig hard clip device (free for all) Bitwig doesnt have a real native clipper (no peak leaks), this presets works fine and uses only Bitwig devices.
